Batiks are created with a unique method of painting.  The painting is composed on fabric, and colored with dyes and hot wax.  The process is carefully applied one color at a time.  Starting with the waxing out any areas that are to be kept white.  Followed by the dunking the fabric in the lightest color or the color may be painted in, allowed to dry and waxed to seal the color.  This procedure continues until all the colors you want are applied.  When the last color is dried and sealed, the fabric may then be crumbled up.  An additional color of dye is added to the cracks in the wax.  Upon completion, the wax is removed and the art piece is completed!  Time consuming, but WELL worth it!
